The common foxglove: a colourful plant that grows especially well in poor soil (it's a ‘pioneer’s plant’). Digitalis purpurea is a lovely spot-filler for places in the garden that are allowed to be that little bit wilder.

Tip: After flowering cut the stem to 5 seedpods high; that way the Foxglove will self seed without becoming a plague.
